AC Contactor--An electrical device designed for the specific purpose of establishing or
interrupting an ac power circuit.
Acceptance Test (Stationary Battery) --A constant current or power capacity test
made on a new battery to determine whether it meets specifications or manufacturer's
ratings.
Accessible--Easily entered or vacated by a physically disabled person.
Accessible Area of Refuge --An area of refuge complying with the accessible route
requirements of International Code Council ( ICC)/ANSI A117.1 , American National
Standard for Accessible and Usable Buildings and Facilities.
Active Filter--A power electronics device equipped with controls to provide
cancellation of harmonic current components caused by nonlinear loads.
Ambient-Compensated Circuit Breaker--A breaker that has the capability to partially
or completely counteract the effect of ambient temperature upon the tripping
characteristics.
Area of Refuge--A floor or fully sprinklered building that has at least two accessible
rooms or spaces separated from each other by smoke partitioning; or a space in a
means of egress that is protected from the effects of fire and smoke, either by
separation from the other spaces in the same building or by virtue of location, thereby
permitting delay in egress travel from any level.
