SHORT APPROACH LIGHTING SYSTEM (SALS)

3-3.1

Purpose

The SALS is a high intensity approach light system used at locations where installation

space is a problem and non-precision approaches are conducted. This configuration

requires a waiver. See paragraph 1-10 or paragraph 1-11.

3-3.2

Configuration

The SALS, as shown in Figure 3-7, is configured as an ALSF-1, except the system is

450 meters (1,500 feet) long and does not have sequenced flashing lights.
