TACAN Checkpoint signs are provided when an airfield has a TACAN
system and provides information for the pilot who verifies the operation of the
navigational aid in the aircraft before takeoff. The sign includes information on the type
of navigational aid, identification code, radio channel, magnetic bearing, and the
distance in nautical miles to the transmitting antenna from the checkpoint marking. The
sign is positioned so it will be visible to the pilot of the aircraft properly positioned on the
checkpoint marking.
