Local Centers
a. Description
The Local Center is the focus of neighborhood life - the
place to go for community, commercial and service activ-
ities, within walking distance in the neighborhood. Local
Centers serve geographical subareas or population sub-
groups of the post. They are typically programmed sep-
arately for troops or for families, although in some cir-
cumstances they may serve both. These centers range
from small facilities which accommodate only non-spe-
cialized activities, primarily recreational for a small popu-
lation, to much larger facilities including diverse and vari-
able specialized activities. The Local Center should be
an evident, inviting place, convenient to the daily life of
its users (see figure 4 - 5).
